The Board of the Exhibition Road Cultural Group (ERCG) is pleased to announce that our new Director will be Susie Newbery. Susie brings a wealth of experience from her background in the arts to our partnership of 22 cultural and educational organisations in London's original culture and educational district and London's home of arts and science.
Susie will join us this summer from a recent senior leadership role at the National Theatre as Head of Executive Projects, where she works directly with the Executive Director, Kate Varah, the Board and the wider organisation on a range of operational and organisational responsibilities. These include project managing and driving forward a pan-organisation year-long project to create a new 5-year strategy and values for the theatre, alongside planning and launching several key Equity, Diversity and Inclusion initiatives across the operation.
Previously Head of Press and Communications for National Theatre Productions - the commercial tours and transfers arm of the NT – Susie worked nationally and internationally on press campaigns for more than 20 global tours and West End transfers. Prior to this, her background in marketing and communications has seen her work in management roles for some of the foremost British theatres, including the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Almeida Theatre.
Tim Reeve, Co-Chair, Exhibition Road Cultural Group said:
“ Susie will lead our partnership of 22 world-leading organisations, working together to address shared challenges whilst ensuring that London’s original culture and education district thrives as a great place to visit, work, study and live. This ambition for the district is embodied in the Great Exibition Road Festival which launched in 2019 as a celebration in arts and science designed to help raise awareness of the extraordinary things that happen in our neighbourhood and strengthen our relationship with our local communities.
Susie joins us at an exciting time as we begin a three-year programme to accelerate our response to climate change and the biodiversity crisis, utilising the collective skills and expertise we have here to become an exemplar zero-emissions, nature-positive neighbourhood. With her strategic leadership skills, experience with complex stakeholder engagement and passion and flair for creativity in the arts sector, she will build on the team's excellent work, leading our unique cultural district into its next phase. "
