The Great Exhibition Road Festival

On the 15th & 16th June, the Great Exhibition Road Festival returned to South Kensington for another jam-packed weekend of unmissable experiences for science enthusiasts, art lovers, and curious minds alike!

Despite the rain, the festival buzzed with excitement, offering a rich tapestry of hands-on workshops, inspiring talks, mesmerizing performances, and thought-provoking installations.

th Festival showcased the collaborative spirit of world-leading institutions including Imperial College London, the Natural History Museum, the Science Museum, the V&A, the Royal College of Music, the Royal Albert Hall, and the Royal Parks. Together, they curated a diverse array of events designed to inspire innovation, motivate change, and spark creativity.

In the Family Fun Zone, children under 12 and their families enjoyed an array of engaging activities, with opporutnties to meet an amazing array of scientists, musicians, engineers, artists, and doctors! From assisting scientists with experiments, to dance and meditation sessions, there was something for everyone. Families with children under five could also drop in for stories, songs, and rhymes specially designed for little ones.

Adults ventured into the 18+ Creative Science Zone for an experience where science met art in unique and inspiring ways. Highlights included creating mosaic self-portraits, exploring the science of conserving and protecting art for future generations and an infectious arcade. At the Future Food Zone visitors got a taste of sustainability, picking up recipe cards and top tips for reducing the carbon footprint of their mealtimes, before discovering how food waste can be turned into face masks or even energy to power a home!

The exclusive Discover South Kensington tours were also back and better than ever this year with historical walking tours that immersed visitors in the rich cultural heritage of the area. Participants experienced the realization of Prince Albert's dream and joined 'walkshops' to learn about nature, biodiversity, and wildlife in London. These tours explored hidden natural refuges in South Kensington and encouraged discussions on making the neighborhood more nature-positive and sustainable.
