In June 2023, Exhibition Road hosted a weekend-long celebration of the power of awe and wonder which inspires us, motivates change and sparks innovation, with free science and arts events for all ages hosted by South Kensington's cultural and educational organisations.

On 15th & 16th October we hosted the UK Space Agency for a special event on Exhibition Road - a 72 ft replica LauncherOne rocket sat outside the Science Museum ahead of the first UK satellite launch from Cornwall later this year. The event aimed to raise awareness of the launch and inspire the younger generation with space related science. A programme of free events from the Science Museum, Imperial College London, Natural History Museum, Virgin Orbit, Spaceport Cornwall and the UK Space Agency supported the replica rocket and the event was launched by Science Minister Nusrat Ghani.

Local artist, Azarra Amoy, celebrates neurodiverse people and their contribution to the arts and sciences in South Kensington, through a series of colourful kaleidoscopic artworks on Exhibition Road. Azarra uses a kaleidoscopic spectrum of colours to represent the uniqueness of an individual’s neurodiversity.

Over summer 2021, South Kensington is coming alive with exciting new installations and a green trail for visitors. Pop-up nature hubs and installations created by architects, artists and garden designers will leave visitors buzzing with new ideas and inspiring visions for a greener future.

The Covid Culture Shock brought together leading voices from South Kensington’s world-renowned art & science district, chaired by former UK Culture Minister Lord Vaizey.

The Covid pandemic has sent shock waves around the world, and left cultural venues fighting for survival. But it has also delivered new partnerships, digital innovations and unforeseen connections with audiences and communities. Our panelists explored the legacy of 2020.

Two of the UK’s museum groups have joined forces with leading immersive content studio, Factory 42, to support the launch of two new fun science-based learning apps as they explore how science and culture can also be accessed digitally during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Exhibition Road Day of Design 2019 in September was established as a collaboration between multiple partners along Exhibition Road, to celebrate the final day of London Design Festival. Exhibition Road was partially closed to traffic for a day of activity focusing on design solutions to climate change. The day coincided with Car Free Day across London.

On 22nd November 2019, students from around the UK attended our annual Creative Quarter day. The event for 13-19 year olds aimed to inspire students to explore creative industries and find out about creative careers through a series of talks, workshops and tours in the cultural and educational venues of South Kensington.

Over the weekend in 2019, South Kensington's Exhibition Road hosted a celebration of curiosity and discover, with a new free festival of art, science and culture. The festival was a collaboration between 22 organisations.

To celebrate 150 years of the Periodic Table of the elements in 2019, partners came together to hold a festival of chemistry in South Kensington.

On 31 January 2019, Institut françias hosted Night of Ideas, a series of free talks, debates and performances related to this year’s central topic: Europe and the environment.

Exhibition Road Day of Design in 2018 was a collaboration between multiple partners along Exhibition Road, to celebrate the final day of London Design Festival and the V&A’s Digital Design Weekend. 2018 marked ten years of the London Design Festival at the V&A.

On 23rd November 2018 South Kensington welcomed over a thousand students for one of our biggest events of the year – Creative Quarter. The event, for 13-19 year olds, included talks, demonstrations, drop-ins and workshops and aimed to educate and inspire children in creative careers.

The Exhibition Road Commission brought together leading international artists with scientists, researchers and creative thinkers around Exhibition Road to develop new, site-specific installations and interdisciplinary events.

On 15th December 2015, we hosted a special launch day and evening event with the UK Space Agency to celebrate Tim Peake launch and docking at the International Space Station.

Music Day took place on Exhibition Road between 2005 and 2012 as part of the renowned international festival Fête de la Musique. Throughout the day at mainly indoor but also some outdoor venues around the Exhibition Road area.

Supersonix was an international celebration (Jan-June 2012) of the art and science of sound in all its complexity, taking place in London’s cultural heartland.

The Centre for Performance Science is a cross-disciplinary partnership between Imperial College and the Royal College of Music, founded in 2000. In 2011, students began the Performance Simulator project, in attempt to help musicians overcome their fear of performing in front of a live audience.

Imperial College London and the Royal College of Music teach a specialist course -  the BSc Physics and Music Performance, a unique joint programme taught by staff from both institutions.

Curators from the Natural History Museum and three academics from the Department of Bioengineering at Imperial College London showcase research that aims to inspire novel technologies from a selection of animals found in the collections.
